Samsung starts One UI 5 beta program with Android 13 for the Galaxy S22 series
Samsung has announced its One UI 5 beta program, following the release of a comparable One UI Watch 4.5 program for the Galaxy Watch4 series. While Google is expected to introduce stable versions of Android 13 in September, it already offers Android 13 Beta 4.1 to Pixel smartphones from the Pixel 4 series onwards. As expected, Samsung has opened the One UI 5 beta program to the Galaxy S22 series, which still only consists of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
So far, One UI 5 builds have become available in Germany and South Korea. Unfortunately, Samsung has not confirmed full availability yet, but changelogs have started appearing on social media, such as the one shared by @sondesix. Also, SamMobile has published numerous One UI 5 screenshots. However, it seems that Samsung has made hardly any changes from One UI 4 beyond a few cosmetic changes. Incidentally, this matches Max Weinbach's experience with a leaked One UI 5 build that we discussed last month.
In short, Samsung has revised the UI in some places, as well as reworking the notification shade and providing more multi-touch gestures. Samsung adds that it has included more colour palettes too, plus the ability to stack widgets on your home screen. Presumably, Samsung will formally introduce One UI 5 at next week's Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10. The Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 could launch with Android 12 and One UI 4 though, based on previous releases. You can become a One UI 5 beta tester through the Samsung Members app, which the company distributes through the Galaxy Store and the Google Play Store. You can find more information about the One UI 5 beta on the Samsung Developer website.
