One UI 5.0 beta and stable release time frames revealed for Samsung Galaxy smartphones
SamMobile claims to have received information about the timing of One UI 5.0's release. Expected to arrive to early for Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung will base One UI 5.0 on Android 13. For context, Google has just released Android 13 Beta 3.3, the third minor beta update since the OS reached Platform Stability.
Currently, Google estimates that Android 13 will be ready sometime in August or September. In comparison, SamMobile believes that Samsung will start distributing One UI 5.0 in October. Allegedly, the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra will be the first smartphones to receive One UI 5.0, likely followed by recent Galaxy Z handsets, the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Tab S8 series.
In short, One UI 5.0 should reach stable status one month sooner than One UI 4.0. Theoretically, this should allow Samsung to offer the Android 13 upgrade to more devices before the end of the year, although we imagine it will extend its release schedule into early 2023. In the meantime, SamMobile expects Samsung to open a One UI 5.0 beta program during the third week of July.
Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S22 series will become eligible first; SamMobile has not provided any other details about availability for other smartphones, though. Presumably, One UI 5.0 beta will start in South Korea, before migrating to other markets like Europe, the US and UK a few weeks later. While Samsung has not confirmed what to expect from One UI 5.0, the OS update is rumoured to feature a faster UI than One UI 4.0, courtesy of re-worked system animations.
