Samsung launches new ultra-short throw projectors with Samsung Gaming Hub, ambient mode, and a $3,000 starting price

Samsung has announced two new ultra-short throw smart projectors as a follow-up to the Premiere premium projector released in 2020. The new projectors are the Samsung LPU7D a.k.a. Premiere 7 and the LPU9D a.k.a. Premiere 9.

The Premiere 7 is the cheaper of the two with a price tag of $2,999.99. It uses 4K laser technology and boasts a maximum projection size of 120 inches. It also has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 2400 ANSI lumens brightness, and a 2.2 channel audio system with built-in 30W speakers.

On the other hand, the Premiere 9 which sells for a jaw-dropping $5,999.99 uses triple laser technology, can project up to 130 inches, and has a 154% DCI-P3 color gamut. It also has a peak brightness of 3200 ANSI lumens while its 2.2.2 channel audio system comes with 40W speakers and built-in woofers.

While there are other differences, both projectors boast 4K AI upscaling which upgrades content in lower resolutions to 4K. They can also automatically adjust the brightness and contrast based on the environment. Unlike the 2020 model, the new projectors come with the Samsung Gaming Hub. The gaming hub integrates Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA's GeForce Now, and Amazon's Luna gaming service among others in one place.

Another new addition is an ambient mode that allows owners to choose from a variety of content to display when the projector is not in use. Owners can opt to display their photos, color effects, animated background scenes such as a fire place, or even widgets such as a clock. The Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 also have support for Bixby and Amazon's Alexa voice assistants, Samsung SmartThings, and Matter. Both projectors ship with a Samsung SolarCell remote.

The Samsung Premiere 7 and Premiere 9 ultra-short throw projectors are already available to buy in the US, and for a limited time, Samsung will ship either projector with a free unit of its Freestyle 2nd Gen portable projector which sells for $598 on Amazon.
