Samsung has confirmed that it will be bringing Galaxy S22 camera features to many other Galaxy handsets. The list includes the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3, but also extends back to the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy S20 series.

Samsung has announced that it will be back-porting Galaxy S22 series camera features to older flagship handsets. According to a thread on Samsung's Community platform, it will bring the camera features to the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy Z series, starting with the Galaxy S21 series. While Samsung will only update the default camera app's capabilities, it will distribute the features through a software update.

In the same post, Samsung explains that it will make improvements in five areas, although some changes will not be available to all models. Specifically, Samsung will allow portrait mode to use a device's telephoto camera in night shots, albeit only for those with dedicated telephoto optics. Hence, this feature will make its way to the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series, plus the Galaxy Z Fold2 and the Galaxy Z Fold3. Theoretically, the feature will allow you to capture better-looking portrait shots in low light than on earlier software revisions.

Moreover, Samsung has added an improved auto-framing function when shooting videos. Supposedly, the feature can detect up to 10 people who are within 5 metres of the camera to optimise zoom and tracking settings. Samsung states that it will bring this feature to the Galaxy S21 series, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 4G/5GGalaxy Z Flip3Galaxy Z Fold2 and the Galaxy Z Fold3. Unfortunately, it is unclear why the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 series are ineligible for this feature. Similarly, Samsung has brought automatic framing effects and extended support for video calling apps to numerous smartphones.

Separately, the company reports that it will allow social and third-party camera apps to access its image quality optimisation technologies, including the ability to shoot with HDR enabled. Moreover, the Galaxy Z Fold3 will soon support Pro Mode Zoom improvements and Expert RAW mode, which has already reached other handsets. The full eligibility list for these features is as follows; Samsung has not confirmed when they will reach other markets yet.
