Samsung’s The Frame smart TV (around $1,598 on Amazon) combines the look of a picture frame with a television, capable of displaying art on a wall in standby mode rather than just being a large black rectangle like most smart TVs. However, The Frame has always been an average performer at best in terms of specs.
This is exactly what The Frame Pro aims to change: Samsung is finally bringing mini-LED lighting to the series. However, these mini-LEDs are placed only at the lower edge rather than behind the entire panel, as seen in Samsung’s Neo QLED Smart TVs. As a result, The Frame Pro will likely offer far fewer dimming zones than a conventional mini-LED TV. Nevertheless, its brightness and contrast will still benefit from the mini-LEDs.
The new model will feature a higher refresh rate of 144 Hz and a wireless One Connect Box. Users can connect devices such as a PlayStation 5 to this box via HDMI and then stream the video feed wirelessly to the smart TV, meaning they only need to run a power cable to The Frame Pro. The box should work from up to 10 metres (32.8 feet) away, even with obstacles in between.
The Frame Pro’s remote sports a dedicated AI button that lets users retrieve various information, such as which actors are on screen right now and where a scene was filmed. There are also other AI-powered services: For instance, Samsung Food can recognise dishes and show recipes for them, whilst Live Translate automatically converts subtitles into a selected language.
