Samsung Galaxy M55 5G tipped to launch as 50MP selfie camera smartphone with Super Fast Charging
The Galaxy A55 5G is the latest new Android smartphone for the sub-$450 segment of the market from Samsung. However, according to the latest reports, it might soon have a challenger in the form of a very similarly-titled handset from the same brand.
In the tradition of making Galaxy M-series counterparts for its Galaxy A-series devices, Samsung is also thought to release the M55 soon. However, judging by a new MSPowerUser render, the 2 smartphones might not even look that much alike, with the latter sporting and a version of their largely uniform rear panel with more pronounced curvature.
This subtle design change, presented in pale green or black colorways that may or may not also fade to sunset or twilight shades respectively, might be intended to denote a potentially significant upgrade for the M55: Super Fast Charging 2.0 technology.
The up-to-45W wired charging standard is typically exclusive to devices such as the top-end Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, yet is now thought to finally trickle down to its mid-range counterparts starting with the M55 5G later in 2024.
Then again, the same device is also thought to pair a standard 5,000mAh battery with its relatively fancy spec. It is thought to power a display that, while having most of its specs in common with that of the FHD+ AMOLED A55, is backed to be a little bigger at 6.7 inches
On that note, the M55 is thought to have a different SoC - and different rear cameras, which is where the A55 might actually have the edge. Its updated 50+12+5MP set-up would indeed look generous compared to the 50+8+2MP array predicted for the M-series variant.
Then again, the Galaxy M55 is also thought to emerge as a Vivo V30-series killer, with a 50MP shooter for its display punch-hole as well.
The smartphone is also thought to rock up to 12GB of RAM, an up-to-1TB microSD card slot and the same One UI version as the A55 with up to 5 years' worth of security patch updates, yet lacks a concrete launch date at the time of writing.
