Samsung has just released the refreshed, 2016 version of its Galaxy J1 budget-oriented smartphone. At 4.5-inches, it is slightly bigger than its hugely popular predecessor which featured a 4.3-inch screen, altough it offers the same resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.
More significantly, the Galaxy J1 2016 has been outfitted with a more powerful processor than the 2015 model. This time we’ll find the 28 nm, quad-core Exynos 3475 inside, clocked at 1.3 GHz, with Mali-T720 graphics unit. The SoC is accompanied by 1 GB of RAM (which is also higher compared to the 512 / 768 MB in the 2015 model). The built-in storage space has been doubled from 4 GB to 8 GB. Also battery is larger – its capacity is 2050 mAh now.
There have been no changes when it comes to camera sensor resolutions. The Galaxy J1 2016 sports a 5 MP main camera on the rear, as well as a 2 MP selfie shooter on front.
Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 has been priced at approx. $150, which seems a bit steep for a model with rather modest specifications, even with 4G LTE connectivity coming as standard.
