The South Korean manufacturer has announced the 2016 refresh of the Galaxy A3 and A5 smartphones for a launch next week in select European territories. The smaller Galaxy A3 will carry a 4.74-inch 720p Super AMOLED display and 1.5 GHz Exynos 7578 SoC while the larger Galaxy A5 will carry a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display and 1.6 GHz Exynos 7580 SoC. Both models will have identical high-speed f/1.9 rear cameras. Additional specifications for each device are provided by the handy spec sheets below.
Customers can choose between Black, White, and Gold colors for the new Galaxy A smartphones with Rose Gold (or Pink Gold) coming early February. The refreshed A series brings aluminum designs and Gorilla Glass on both the front and back of the smartphones for a high-end and sleeker look. When compared to the more well-known flagship S series, the A series targets a more mainstream audience. Our reviews on the existing Galaxy A3 and A5 2015 editions show them to be respectable smartphones for the price. Perhaps coincidentally, the 2015 models launched very early in the year as well.
The refreshed Galaxy J series was also recently spotted in the wild, so Samsung looks to be well-prepared for a head start this early in the year. The headline-grabbing (and long-rumored) Galaxy S7 series will likely make an official appearance next month at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.
