SK Hynix denies supplying Huawei Mate 60-series components
Huawei's latest Mate-series announcements are already touted to boost its mobile device shipments by up to 65% year-on-year, thanks to skyrocketing demand for the premium appeal of its latest generation. However, their ability to exhibit specs of potentially critical updates compared to their predecessors has proven an "alarming" mystery to some, the US government included.
The OEM's new SoC may or may not have been sourced from SMIC and, thus, without the assistance of non-Chinese chip-makers. However, that does not explain the RAM and ROM chips found to have "SKhynix" printed on them found alongside this "Kirin 9000S" processor in the course of a recent Mate 60 Pro teardown.
SK Hynix has denied any knowledge or active participation of the use of its hardware in the device's construction. In fairness, since the smartphone is believed to have older LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage, it is possible that the chips in question came from a pre-US hardware trade blacklist stockpile from the Mate 40 era.
In any case, SK Hynix seems determined to prove that it was not in contravention of any official sanctions as a result of its new investigation.
