Realme India's CEO, Madhav Sheth, has reportedly revealed that the brand's next smartphone with 5G could be its cheapest yet. It will target its budget price-tier in response to the impending roll-out of a next-gen mobile service network tipped to finally go nationwide in 2022. The device will be a part of a product launch cycle tipped to keep right on going throughout the rest of this year.
Realme was one of the first consumer tech brands popular in India to go 5G with its smartphones. Then again, the new buzzword may have been seen as not even that nice to have, as the next-gen connectivity has never been widely available in any case, particularly in rural areas.
However, that is set to change, as the country's Department of Telecommunications (DoT) remains confident that the rollout of 5G will begin in earnest from September 2022 at the latest. Its signals are said to concentrate around 13 major cities; despite this, Madhav Sheth asserts that now is the time to position Realme as the go-to 5G phone brand for those who will have access to it.
The executive has reportedly announced that the OEM's next appropriately-spec'd handset will cost between INR 10,000 and 15,000 (~US$126-189), whereas its latest product with the connectivity (the Pad X) starts at INR 25,999 (~US$328). It is slated to launch as one of "at least 4 new products" to debut from Realme in India in the next few months.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
