Razer has launched its first barbones keyboard allowing users to experiment with their own switches and keycaps or go with Razer’s offerings. The Razer BlackWidow v4 75 Barebones builds on top of the company’s first hot-swappable keyboard, the BlackWidow v4 75 (Buy on Amazon). It brings the premium build quality, sound dampening, and RGB lighting present in the BlackWidow V4 series of keyboards.
The barebones kit comes in both black and white colors. It includes everything but the switches and keycaps, so the 5052-aluminum alloy top case, multi-function roller and two media keys, lubricated stabilizers, Poron gaskets, plate foam, and the hot-swap PCB with 8K polling support are part of the kit. The hot-swap nature of the BlackWidow V4 keybaord allows any standard 3-pin or 5-pin switches to be used. Razer has its own Orange tactile, Yellow linear, and Green clicky switches to choose from as well.
As for the keycaps, users can opt for the Razer Phantom upgrade set in black or white, or go with their own set of keycaps. The black barebones kit without any switches or keycaps is priced at $140, which is $60 cheaper than the fully assembled BlackWidow V4 75. The white kit, however, is $10 more.
Razer says this release marks the beginning of a new era in the company’s gaming keyboard legacy, suggesting there will be more barebones kits in the future. Razer has a Pro model (Buy on Amazon) of the BlackWidow V4 as well that features an OLED display for easy customization.
The Razer BlackWidow v4 75 Barebones is available via the official website and Razer stores for now. It is unclear if retailers will get access to the barebones kit as well.
