In Darksiders, players take on the role of War, the first Horseman of the Apocalypse. He is accused of prematurely triggering the end of the world, throwing Heaven and Hell out of balance. Stripped of his powers, War returns to the devastated Earth to prove his innocence. In the Warmastered Edition, the apocalypse looks better than ever: sharper textures, 4K resolution, improved effects and newly rendered cutscenes give it a fresh coat of polish.

In terms of gameplay, however, everything remains familiar. Darksiders combines action-adventure elements with hard-hitting hack-and-slash combat. New weapons and abilities gradually open up new paths across an Earth overrun by angels and demons, while players solve puzzles and regularly face spectacular boss battles. In between, huge groups of enemies try to take War down, but he knows how to defend himself: melee attacks, special abilities and finishers define the combat system.

Eurogamer gave Darksiders Warmastered Edition a strong 4 out of 5, praising its well-executed action-adventure gameplay, atmospheric world and enjoyable combat system. The puzzle and dungeon design also scored well. The main criticism was aimed at the technical side: despite the remaster, the game looks visibly dated in places, and according to the review, some sections feel a little drawn out.

The Steam community is also impressed: 87% of more than 18,000 user reviews are positive. On Metacritic, the action-adventure has a Metascore of 77 and a User Score of 7.7. Darksiders Warmastered Edition is rated “Verified” for the Steam Deck.

85% discount on Steam

Darksiders was originally developed by Vigil Games and released in 2010. The German studio KAIKO handled the technically revised Warmastered Edition from 2016, while THQ Nordic acted as publisher in both cases. On Steam, the title normally costs just under $20, but an 85% discount reduces the price to $2.99 until May 10. According to SteamDB, discounts of up to 75% are usually more common. The last time Darksiders Warmastered Edition was this cheap was in August 2018, almost eight years ago.
