There is no denying that the ongoing DRAM and storage shortages have wreaked havoc for budget-conscious gamers who have been on the market for a new gaming machine. Thankfully, a set of exciting recent deals on Walmart and other retailers have made this ordeal somewhat easier on our wallets.
For instance, the Gigabyte A16 gaming laptop with a Powerful GeForce RTX 5070 GPU and a 165 Hz display is now available with a major $600 discount on Walmart, bringing its price down to just under $1,250.
This specific variant also comes equipped with a potent Intel Core i7-13620H CPU, paired with 32 GB of RAM, a terabyte of storage, and a 165 Hz display.
Gigabyte A16 gaming laptop: Old CPU, fresh GPU, and 32 GB of RAM
While it's definitely true that the Core i7-13620H CPU is well over 3 years old at this point, there is still no doubt that the 10-core Raptor Lake-H part still packs a lot of punch. Our in-depth review of the laptop revealed that its CPU performance is only a few percentage points behind a modern AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 APU.
In simpler terms, the majority of moderately intensive CPU workloads should be easily doable on the system. The 32 GB of RAM is perfectly adequate as well and is on the higher side, even by 2026 standards.
The 165 Hz refresh rate is definitely appreciated, especially for fast-paced gaming. The panel supports a peak brightness of 432 nits, which should be enough for indoor usage. Needless to say, an OLED panel would have helped a lot with contrast levels and color performance, but that is hard to expect at this price point with the rest of the specs on offer.
The A16 gaming laptop's 85-watt RTX 5070 falls behind its peers
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU is no slouch and performs well enough in the Gigabyte A16 gaming laptop. It did fall behind the average score which we had recorded for its class, which is to be expected considering its 85 W TGP. Moreover, the 8 GB of VRAM is far from future-proof.
For now, however, gaming performance is adequate considering its current sale price. However, it did fall behind its RTX 5070-powered siblings by a few points. That said, most casual gamers will be perfectly at peace with the overall performance of the system.
We did find that the laptop gets rather loud when stressed, although it did remain quiet when idling. Performance is stable under load, although the chassis does get rather warm to the touch. Interestingly, battery life is above average, with the Gigabyte A16 gaming laptop lasting almost 7.7 hours in our Wi-Fi web browsing testing.
All told, folks who are able to snag this laptop at its current discounted price will likely be quite happy with their purchase. Interested buyers are definitely recommended to check out our detailed review of the gaming laptop before pulling the trigger.
