Laptop makers like Asus, MSI, and Acer unveiled their RTX 50-powered gaming laptops at CES 2025. Pre-orders for the first RTX 50 gaming machines are scheduled to start from February 25. As such, there are currently no RTX 50 gaming machines available on the market.
According to a new report by DigiTimes, Nvidia has delayed the RTX 50 mobile GPUs with the flagship/high-end RTX 50 laptop cards like the RTX 5090 now relegated to March. Cost-effective/mid-range options like the RTX 5070 have also suffered a delay and these GPUs are now scheduled to drop in April rather than March.
So, gamers who were waiting for the next-gen gaming laptops will now have to wait a little longer.
Reasons for the delay of the RTX 50 laptop GPUs
Per DigiTimes, there are rumors floating around that Nvidia is not seeing the expected performance out of the RTX 50 laptop GPUs. Team Green may also be facing some troubles getting the hardware to properly work, as DigiTimes reports “screen problems after the hardware is turned on”. This could indicate unfinished drivers. In fact, DigiTimes quotes some “unnamed” supply chain sources implying exactly that.
Per these anonymous supply chain sources, the delay of RTX 50 laptop GPUs is “probably related to Nvidia’s full sprint to AI servers”. This alleged prioritizing of AI products is seemingly affecting “the company’s resource allocation” which in turn is reducing the “debugging efficiency of new products”.
Put simply, Nvidia might be struggling to allocate more resources to the consumer side of the business, delaying the finishing of the RTX 50 laptop cards. This, in turn, has allegedly pushed the release date of the RTX 50-based gaming laptops back by up to two months.
While we can’t be sure that DigiTimes’ report is accurate, Acer has announced that its mid-range Predator Helios Neo 16 AI with up to an RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU will be available in Q2 2025 which lends credence to the rumors presented here.
