On the desktop side, the GeForce RTX 5080 isn't that much faster than its last-gen counterpart, primarily because they aren't all that different in terms of raw specs. But on the laptop side, we can expect to see some phenomenal gains, at least for high-end models. A 3D Mark Time Spy listing leaked on Bilibili proves it.
The GeForce RTX 5080 laptop scores 21,948 points in the graphics segment. That represents a 24% improvement over the GeForce RTX 4080 laptop, which averages at 17,601 points according to our benchmark database. That represents a cool 24% increase. This sits in line with an earlier Geekbench listing that showed a 20% higher score.
In essence, you get near-RTX 4090 laptop performance in a xx80 tier SKU. Too bad we can't say the same for desktop parts this time. While the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 4080 laptop versions have the same number of CUDA cores (7,680) it offers 16 GB of GDDR7 instead of 12 GB GDDR6X. But, as is the case with laptop parts, it will be held back by power limits.
