Questionable upgrade: Razer Blade 16 2026 costs more vs 2025 version but is reportedly slower in gaming

Razer unveiled the latest version of the Blade 16 gaming laptop at GDC back in March. The Razer Blade 16 2026 retains the thin metal chassis of the 2025 version, packs the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 386H CPU, has a brighter 240 Hz OLED panel, and bumps the wattage of the RTX 5090 laptop GPU. However, all of this has come at a notable price increase.
Sadly, Hardware Canucks’ testing of the Razer Blade 16 2026 has the potential to disappoint many Razer fans, as the Blade 16 2026 doesn’t look like an upgrade compared to the 2025 Razer Blade 16, which did pretty well in our review.
Razer Blade 16 2026 seems to bring questionable value
Hardware Canucks’ main complaints regarding the Blade 16 2026 revolve around the Core Ultra 9 386H CPU, the gaming performance, and the increased cost. The outlet reports that the Razer Blade 16 2026 offers slower CPU performance in multi-core workloads than the 2025 Blade 16, which features the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. In Blender and Houdini, for instance, Hardware Canucks reports an 8% to 13% performance regression for the Razer Blade 16 2026.
In video editing, the Razer Blade 16 2026 beats the 2025 version in Resolve but falls behind in Premiere Pro. So, whether you are getting an upgrade here depends on which app you use.
That said, gaming is where the Razer Blade 16 2026 seems to disappoint. Despite feeding the RTX 5090 laptop a bit more power, the new Blade 16 2026 is apparently slower than the Blade 16 2025. Hardware Canucks reports that the Razer Blade 16 2025 manages to be faster in most tested titles at 1600p.
When it comes to CPU operating temperatures, the Razer Blade 16 2026 shows a curious trend. The new Blade 16 seemingly runs hotter and louder than the Blade 16 2025 in “Custom” and “Balanced” performance profiles. This is pretty interesting, as the “Custom” profile on the new Blade 16 locks power at 69 W vs 75 W for the 2025 model.
The “Performance” profile is where the Blade 16 2026 shines, as the laptop consumes much lower power at 57 W vs 74 W and runs cooler at 75 C vs 79 C without any change in fan noise.
Surprisingly enough, the Razer Blade 16 2026 runs cooler and quieter compared to the 2025 Blade 16 during gaming. Since gaming shifts most of the workload from the CPU to the GPU, it could be that the laptop’s cooling system is adequate enough, but the CPU needs more tweaking.
Razer Blade 16 2026 enjoys a massive battery life improvement
While Hardwar Canucks faced some idle power consumption bugs during their testing, the Blade 16 2026 showed an excellent battery life. The Blade 16 2026 lasted 17 hours and 20 minutes in the web browsing test. This is a 70% improvement over the previous model.

All in all, while the new Blade 16 does get some wins under its belt, Hardware Canucks’ review raises some very important questions regarding the actual improvements, or lack thereof, brought by the Blade 16 2026. Things get worse for the laptop when we consider that Razer is expecting consumers to pay more for the hardware that doesn’t seem to bring any clear performance benefits.
