Polar has started rolling out the Polar OS 5 update to a total of five different smartwatches, including the Polar Vantage M3, Grit X2 Pro and the Ignite 3 (from $305 on Amazon). As usual, it may take several days before the update is available to all users of these smartwatches. The following software versions are currently being rolled out:
- Polar Vantage M3 (v5.0.12)
- Polar Vantage V3 (v5.0.13)
- Polar Grit X2 (v5.0.12)
- Polar Grit X2 Pro (v5.0.13)
- Polar Ignite 3 (v5.0.12)
The smartwatch update primarily introduces convenience features. With Polar OS 5, it is now possible to set multiple alarms directly on the smartwatch, and watch faces get a night mode. As long as the "Do Not Disturb" mode is enabled, the display only lights up a bit when a button is pressed, while some watch faces can now show a more minimalistic time format. Moreover, a new chart can display the blood oxygen saturation over time.
The maps app is getting a dark mode to make it easier on the eyes. Polar OS 5 further introduces two new watch face widgets or complications that provide insight into sleep quality from the previous night and activity from the past week. When the smartwatch is connected to a charger, it can now show the current time.
Polar OS 5 asks users after a workout how strenuous it was, while a rating from 1 to 10 helps the smartwatch adjust the next workout to the user’s performance. Additionally, Polar resolved an issue that could cause iPhone notifications to show up multiple times, and performance when zooming in the maps app has also been improved.
