Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi Turbo 5 in China and then rebadge it as the Poco X8 Pro for the global market shortly after. A new leak has now revealed what chipset will power both devices, well ahead of their debuts.

Word on the Poco X8 Pro first surfaced earlier this week. The mid-range phone is expected to launch next year globally as a rebadge of the upcoming Redmi Turbo 5. According to a new leak, both phones will be powered by MediaTek silicon.

As shared by leaker Yogesh Brar on X, the Redmi Turbo 5 will arrive sporting MediaTek's Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset. That chipset can be expected to officially debut as the Dimensity 8500 later in the year, considering the release dates of the Dimensity 8300 and Dimensity 8400 before it.

While a Dimensity 8500 on the Redmi Turbo 5 isn't surprising—the Redmi Turbo 4 features a Dimensity 8400—the source alludes to this potentially leading to "a big shift" away from Qualcomm silicon by Xiaomi. It's unclear how far such a policy could extend, as Xiaomi has a stellar relationship with Qualcomm and already uses MediaTek chipsets on a good number of its smartphones. Either way, Xiaomi and Qualcomm recently renewed their partnership, and Xiaomi's flagship phones will continue to sport Qualcomm chipsets regardless.
