Plex Remote Pass for streaming from your own NAS becomes 50% more expensive

Plex is software that can be installed on a NAS such as the Terramaster F4-425 Plus ($549 on Amazon) to stream your own photo, movie and music library to devices such as smartphones and smart TVs. This makes it possible to combine the convenience of modern streaming services with purchased rather than rented media.
However, many Plex users cannot do without a monthly subscription. While the basic functions can be used free of charge, the so-called Plex Remote Watch Pass costs $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year - only with this subscription is it possible to access the Plex library outside of the home Wi-Fi network. Plex has now informed customers that this subscription will become 50 percent more expensive on June 1, 2026, so the Remote Watch Pass is expected to cost $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year.
If you want to download content to different devices, grant friends access to your own server or use features such as "skip intro", you will need the Plex Pass for $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year instead - Plex has not yet confirmed whether this subscription will also become more expensive. If you don't want to take out a subscription, you have the option of purchasing the Plex Pass for $249.99 for life. However, if you don't want to spend any money at all to stream media you have already purchased to all devices, you can use open source alternatives such as Jellyfin where all features can be used free of charge.
