Playdate is probably one of the most unique gaming handhelds available right now, not just because of its bold yellow design with a foldable crank, developed by Teenage Engineering, but also due to its unconventional game delivery method. Although the handheld original launched with 24 bundled games, Playdate opted to release two games per week to its customers. Beyond these, many additional games can be found in the Playdate Catalog.
Three years after its debut, Playdate is finally going to kick off Season 2 on Thursday, 29 May with twelve brand-new titles. Owners can once again expect to receive two games each week over the course of six weeks. The second season is now available for purchase on Panic’s official website for $39. All twelve games are exclusive to this bundle and not sold separately. In the video below, Panic provides a glimpse at some of the new games.
Amongst the more eccentric additions is Dig Dig Dino, where players embarks on a journey to excavate and assemble twelve dinosaurs whilst slowly upgrading various tools to uncover bones buried deeper in the ground. Taria & Como is a puzzle platformer that requires players to use the crank to swing their character through the game world. Shadowgate PD is a classic point-and-click adventure, and Fulcrum Defender, from the creators of FTL: Faster Than Light, challenges players to fend off waves of enemies using a crank-controlled weapon.
