PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced: New leak reveals requirements for qualifying games
The PlayStation 5 Pro's specs are all but confirmed, thanks to a slew of leaks. Along with a faster CPU, GPU and RAM, it will also debut Sony's new PSSR AI-upscaling tech that should, in theory, let it run games at 4K 120 FPS. Games that can take advantage of the PS5 Pro's hardware will come with an "enhanced" tag and will have to fulfil the following requirements.
Insider Gaming has seen documents detailing the boxes developers have to check before their game is eligible. It should be able to run at a steady 4K 60 FPS (with PSSR enabled). Developers are also required to "add or increase raytracing effects" to their titles. Currently, there is no word about which title will debut with the PlayStation 5 Pro "Enhanced" tag. Whether or not the PlayStation 5 Pro's hardware will be able to maintain a steady 60 FPS with raytracing remains to be seen.
Its aged Zen 2 CPU could potentially bottleneck the RDNA 3 GPU. However, Moore's Law is Dead states that AMD designed a "more compact" CPU ( Zen 2 ported to TSMC 4 nm) for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Hopefully, developers will use the extra firepower to fix other issues with console games, such as poor anisotropic filtering.
