An analyst confirms rumors of the upcoming launch of the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro later this year, while recent rumors suggest that the console will be able to display games in 4K at 120 frames per second, thanks to Nvidia DLSS-style upscaling technology.

After the first rumors about the features of the PlayStation 5 Pro have been circulating over the past few weeks, Serkan Toto, analyst and CEO of Kantan Games, confirmed to CNBC that the more powerful version of the PlayStation 5 (approx. 470 euros on Amazon) will actually be launched on the market in 2024.

With this launch schedule, Sony aims to ensure that the new console is available in sufficient quantities in time for the launch of blockbusters such as GTA VI and Death Stranding 2. Meanwhile, leaker Moore's Law is Dead from NXGamer has received fresh information about the console's new features. Allegedly, Sony is developing an upscaling technology similar to Nvidia DLSS that allows games to be rendered in a lower resolution and scaled to 4K using artificial intelligence without affecting the image quality too much.

This new technology should make it possible to display games in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. While no further details on this technology are yet available, a DLSS alternative from Sony would come as no surprise, as numerous upscaling technologies are already available with AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, and even Apple MetalFX Upscaling. According to earlier rumors, the PS5 Pro will retain eight processor cores based on the Zen 2 architecture and 16 GB of RAM. In addition to higher CPU clock frequencies and faster memory, the graphics chip in particular is set to receive a major upgrade to 56 RDNA 2 compute units, which would offer 55.5 percent more shaders than the regular PS5.
