So, the XPS 13 2-in-1 7390 is here. Well, sort of. After bringing the first Athena laptop to market in China, the company then started taking orders in the US. However, while Dell had previously promised a simultaneous worldwide release of its latest 2-in-1, that has not quite panned out. The Dell websites in Canada, Germany and the UK still show the XPS 13 2-in-1 9365, which may come as a disappointment for those hoping to order the 2-in-1 7390 this week.
Until now, Dell has been rather obtuse about a wider 2-in-1 release, claiming that it will "let folks know about other regions soon". Likewise, its Japanese-arm has pointed towards a mid-August release. However, a post has appeared on Reddit of an email in which Dell states that it is pushing that date back further for the German market. While we cannot currently verify this email, it does look legitimate. We have redacted the customer support representative's name from the email screenshot, but it is still visible on Reddit. The email, which we have translated from German, reads as follows:
Thank you for your interest in our products.
The new XPS 7390 2-in-1 series should be available and orderable on our page at the end of August. This series should offer up to 2.5x higher performance in comparison to the current 9365 series. XPS 13 should also be thinner.
While the device may become orderable by the end of the month in Germany, Dell typically takes a few weeks to ship new products after launching pre-orders, although there is currently a 1-month lead time for US orders. So, people in Germany can realistically expect to receive their 2-in-1 7390 machines in mid-September. There is currently no word yet on when Dell plans to release the series in other regions, but it would be unsurprising to see the company to roll-out the 2-in-1 7390 across Europe simultaneously.
