The Philips ProPix 650 and ProPix 850 projectors have been unveiled. The two models are designed for business use and have a light source that can generate up to 4,000 lumens brightness. While the cheaper ProPix 650 has a WXGA resolution, the ProPix 850 is a 1080p projector.

Philips has revealed the new ProPix series projectors. The ProPix 850 and ProPix 650 have been developed in partnership with Screeneo, as was the case for earlier models like the U5 and the S4 (curr. $329.99 at Amazon). However, these new models are designed for business use, such as in a classroom or meeting room, rather than home theaters.

The ProPix 650 has a WXGA (1,280 x 800p) resolution with a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, while the ProPix 850 has a 1080p (1,920 x 1080p) resolution and a 1,600:1 contrast ratio. Both ProPix projectors use Signify’s latest lamp technology for up to 4,000 ANSI lumens brightness and an up to 10,000-hour lifetime in Eco Mode. They can throw images between 70 and 150 inches (~178 and 381 cm) wide. With a 1.49:1 throw ratio, Philips estimates that you could cast an 80-inch (~203 cm) image from a distance of 4 m (~13 ft).

There are image-perfecting tools such as digital zoom, manual focus, and vertical keystone correction, and ports like HDMI, VGA, RS232 and USB. Other features of the DLP models include a built-in 2W speaker, presets for presentations and spreadsheets, and support for various aspect ratios: 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 and native. The Philips ProPix 650 will retail for $499/£499/€499 when it launches in January. The Philips ProPix 850 has a higher price tag of $699/£599/€699 and is scheduled to arrive this December.
