Philips has announced the 243S1, a budget external monitor aimed at those looking to reduce 'cable clutter'. Accordingly, Philips has included a USB Type-C hub that can recharge a laptop at up to 65 W.
On its website, Philips states that the hub contains one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port and four USB 3.2 Type-A ports, plus an RJ45 connection that supports Gigabit Ethernet and Wake on LAN. Additionally, the 23.8-inch monitor has a DisplayPort 1.2 connection, an HDMI 1.4 port and a 3.5 mm audio output.
Separately, the Philips 243S1 runs natively at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Unfortunately, the IPS panel has a 4 ms response time (GtG) and a 250 cd/m² peak brightness. On the other hand, the monitor offers 91% NTSC and 107% sRGB colour space coverage.
According to the manufacturer, the Philips 243S1 will launch for £279.99 in the UK and €329 in the Eurozone. The monitor should be orderable before the end of January 2022.
