Over one-quarter of all tablets shipped are Apple iPads
Apple is still the runaway king in the mobile market with both numbers and profits that speak for themselves. The latest data from analytical firm TrendForce shows a commanding lead of 28.8 percent in the tablet market or more than both the second and third place competitors combined as of 2017. Even though the general tablet market is sloping downwards, no other maker has been able to come close to challenging Apple's market dominance.
The situation is set to look similar for 2018. TrendForce is predicting Apple to ship slightly fewer iPad tablets this year compared to the last from 43.8 million to 42.5 million due partly to the fast rise of competing tablets from Amazon and Huawei. These two competitors are expected to grow by as much as 7.8 percent and 14.2 percent YoY, respectively, while Apple, Samsung, and Lenovo may dip by just a few percentage points each. Even so, the changes would be largely marginal and they would do little to shake up the current list of top 5 largest tablet manufacturers.
The rise in Amazon and Huawei tablet sales may be attributed to Amazon's very cheap Fire devices and Huawei's larger worldwide marketing push for its MediaPad devices. Huawei tablets and detachables in particular have also left positive impressions to press and in our own reviews.
