Optibike R22 Everest Edition: E-bike with a 300-mile range and a 36 MPH top speed launches
Optibike has started selling an upgraded version of the R22, which the company calls the R22 Everest Edition. Billed as the Ferrari of electric bikes, Optibike hand builds the R22 Everest Edition in Colorado, where it also designs the e-bike. Purportedly, the R22 Everest Edition is the only e-bike capable of climbing Mount Everest, a rather hyperbolic statement considering that there are no roads to the mountain's summit.
Still, Optibike claims that the R22 Everest Edition has a 300-mile range on its 3,260 Wh battery, assuming a 72.5 kg rider is travelling at 15 mph while pedalling. Supposedly, the e-bike can provide up to 2,500 W of peak power and 1,700 W continuously. Additionally, Optibike claims that the R22 Everest Edition has a 36 MPH top speed and is capable of producing up to 190 Nm of torque.
Moreover, Optibike includes a Rohloff 14 speed internally geared hub, a linkage system with up to 200 m of suspension travel and a custom 2,700 Lumen headlight for riding in darker conditions. As the image below shows, the carbon fibre and 41.73 kg e-bike has an LCD display that shows battery, speed and odometer information. For reference, the LCD display has a backlight and allows you to choose from one of five power levels. The R22 Everest Edition is configurable and orderable through Optibike's website, where it starts at US$17,900.
