Although OxygenOS is one of the lighter OEM overlays available on Android smartphones, that won’t stop tech enthusiasts from wanting to try out the advantages of a custom ROM. Paranoid Android, which has done some sterling work in the past for smartphones from a number of major manufacturers, has just announced the availability of Paranoid Android Ruby Alpha 1 based on Android 11 for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
The Ruby Alpha 1 custom ROM can be downloaded via the XDA Developers forum, and as the name implies, it is an alpha build. This means OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users who decide to install the firmware should be prepared to face some bugs, with some already being mentioned in the forum post: imperfect dimensions, reversed auto brightness, fingerprint on display glitches. The Paranoid Android devs have made the ROM available via fastboot update with recovery.
Unfortunately for OnePlus 8T owners, it has been specified that the Paranoid Android Ruby Alpha 1 custom ROM is not compatible with that device; however, the devs mention that there is a growing list of supported smartphones coming in the future, so it seems likely the OnePlus 8T won’t be forgotten. For the meantime, OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users can expect greater control over battery permissions, improved battery life, and optimized memory performance by installing Paranoid Android Ruby.
