Nokia 9.3 PureView launch delayed again; HMD Global expected to release the smartphone in H1 2021
Nokia is yet to release a flagship smartphone in 2020. An earlier report told us that the Nokia 9.3 PureView would be launched before the year ends. That doesn't seem to be the case, in light of some new information obtained by Nokia Anew. It appears that Nokia 9.3 PureView's release date has been pushed back once again.
Although Nokia Anew has, on several occasions, prophesized that the Nokia 9.3 PureView will be launched in 2020, they've been relatively spot-on with other Nokia-centric leaks. The Nokia 7.3 5G and Nokia 6.3 were to be released along the Nokia 9.3 PureView, but their fate remains unknown at this point. We could still see a late 2020 launch for the mid-rangers.
The lingering question on everyone's mind is, will HMD Global refresh the Nokia 9.3 PureView's hardware. While the Snapdragon 865 is still a powerful chipset, launching a smartphone powered by it in 2021 will not sit well with a lot of users, especially when Snapdragon 875-powered devices are already on the market.
Unfortunately, the chances of HMD Global launching the Nokia 9.3 PureView with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 are low. In all likelihood, the company already has started manufacturing the smartphone, and changing a core component like the SoC mid-production is not possible.
Will the Nokia 9.3 PureView have what it takes to compete with upcoming Q1 2021 heavyweights like the Galaxy S21 and Xiaomi Mi 11 series? Probably not. But HMD Global can, at the very least, target the affordable flagship segment, that even OnePlus doesn't seem to care about anymore.
