Rumor | Nokia is working on a 108MP penta-cam phone with a 120Hz display and the Snapdragon 775 chipset
The blog NokiaPowerUser claims to have received a tip-off that the HMD Global brand will launch its first 108MP camera phone soon. Furthermore, this ultra-high-res sensor will be part of one of this company's penta-cam set-ups. However, those in hopes of this new leak re-raising the prospect of a 9.3 PureView might be disappointed.
The alleged high-end cameras will apparently be paired with the upcoming Snapdragon 775 processor. While it is hotly anticipated as a 5G-capable chipset that might be superior to its 765 forebear, it is still a mid-range product. Therefore, it may be that this new "108MP Nokia phone" will be an 8.3 5G successor (or the putative G10, perhaps?) rather than one for the premium tier.
As this idea (combining top-end cameras with otherwise mid-range specs) is catching on among other OEMs, this new rumor is looking more and more probable by the second. Furthermore, NokiaPowerUser asserts that Nokia will sweeten this deal yet more with a 120Hz display.
Should this leak pan out, it really seems like 2021 might turn out to be the year of the 108MP mid-range phone. The putative Nokia contender - also now slated to launch with OZO Audio and PureDisplay V4 technology - may have to do battle with others such as the new Redmi Note 10 series, not to mention the upcoming Realme 8 Pro, this year.
