If you were hoping for a stunning dual-tone blue and papaya orange color scheme for the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, prepare to be disappointed. Instead, what you will get is a rather bland looking carbon fiber rear case with perhaps a hint of orange trim.

If you thought that the McLaren Edition of the OnePlus 6T might pick up similar livery to its stunning F1 cars, you are going to be disappointed. The recent collaboration between McLaren and HTC on a special edition Vive Pro VR headset managed to create something that really stands out from the crowd; but the newest handset from OnePlus looks to have taken a much more conservative approach. If the first leaked renders of the device are any indication, the average user would be hard pressed to spot the difference between the McLaren Edition and a regular OnePlus 6T.

McLaren is renowned for its papaya orange racing trim, but if anything, there only appears to be hints of that color in the device. Otherwise, it is dominated by a black carbon look rear case that is the only obvious hint that it is connected with racing. Even the McLaren logo at the bottom of the device will be hard to spot. That said, it could ship with a custom case included, which might help to jazz up its look and feel.

While the low-key approach may well suit some customers, few will be disappointed by its performance. Boasting a Snapdragon 845 matched with 10 GB of RAM, 256 GB flash drive and “Warp Charge” for zero to full charge in 20 minutes, it still has plenty going for it. Expect an official announcement soon, but don’t expect it to be made widely available, with Asia being a key focus for the device.
