Olympus Pen: Leak reveals sensor details and name of OM System's next camera

OM System officially confirmed last week that a new camera in the Olympus Pen series will be unveiled on September 9, 2026. A leak shortly thereafter suggested that the camera is based on the Olympus Pen E-P7, albeit with minor adjustments to the controls and an integrated electronic viewfinder that replaces the built-in flash of the older model.

According to the latest information from 43rumors, this camera will simply be called "OM Pen". The manufacturer is thus not continuing the numbered designation of the older Olympus Pen-F or Pen-E series. The camera reportedly uses the same sensor found in the OM System OM-3 ($1,699 on Amazon). While this is a 20-megapixel Live MOS sensor in the Four Thirds format, just like the sensor of the 2021 Olympus Pen E-P7, it is a more modern backside-illuminated sensor that offers better image quality at high ISO settings.

This sensor comes as no surprise, since no higher-resolution sensor is currently available in this format. With a weather-sealed body, a flip-out display, and a high-resolution electronic viewfinder, this OM Pen is still expected to offer an interesting set of features, especially given its very compact body. The teaser video embedded below provides a first look at the design. The front of the camera isn’t visible yet, but it’s said to feature a dial similar to the one on the OM-3, allowing users to switch between color and monochrome modes.
