Official Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha unboxing vid reveals unique protective case

Xiaomi stunned the smartphone world earlier this week with the launch of the Mi Mix Alpha smartphone. Although labelled a ‘Concept Phone’, the company is shipping it in limited quantities later this year at the sky-high price of US$2,800. The device features a 180 percent screen-to-body ratio with a foldable OLED panel that wraps almost completely around its glass, titanium and ceramic body. Although many have immediately, and naturally, questioned exactly how practical the Mi Mix Alpha will be to use in everyday use a new video released by Xiaomi suggests they have indeed thought this through.

The official unboxing video from Xiaomi shows that the Mi Mix Alpha will ship with a custom designed protective case that appears to offer a full 360-degrees of coverage. In fact, in many ways, Xiaomi’s case is just as innovative as the device it is designed to protect. What’s more, it is so clever, that it looks like it will make the device more than practical for everyday use while also preserving its stunning design aesthetics. In fact, the case itself might even start to turn skeptics of the Mi Mix Alpha into believers.

In addition to the use of cutting-edge materials on the outside of the device, the Mi Mix Alpha is also loaded with the latest technology on the inside. This includes a Snapdragon 855+, 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of the latest UFS 3.0 storage. Battery is a new 4,050 mAh capacity nano silicon cathode instead of the conventional lithium type and can be charged at 40 W for ultra-fast charging. It is also fitted with Samsung’s new 108 MP ISOCELL camera sensor for the primary lens along with a 20 MP wide-angle sensor and a 12 MP telephoto lens.
