Nvidia remains tight-lipped about the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and its tentative launch date
Nvidia hasn't said a peep about the highly-anticipated GeForce RTX 3090 Ti after briefly mentioning it at CES 2022. According to an earlier report, its launch was supposedly delayed due to hardware issues. Placeholder retailer listings from around the world peg its price over US$5,000. Unfortunately, there's no telling when it will see the light of day, and Nvidia doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry, either.
In a statement to The Verge, an Nvidia spokesperson said, "We don't currently have more info to share on the RTX 3090 Ti, but we'll be in touch when we do," indicating that the graphics card isn't ready to make a public appearance yet. There is a non-zero chance that Nvidia will scarp it outright; however, an EEC listing suggests that the company is still working on it.
Because Nvidia doesn't have an official GeForce RTX 3090 Ti release date, one can assume that it will be launched alongside the GeForce RTX 3050 4 GB and GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB. Its only real competitor, at least in this generation, is the upcoming Radeon RX 6950 XT. Intel's maxed-out Arc Alchemist SKU can't quite keep up with its GeForce RTX 3070 Ti level of performance.
Then again, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is rumoured to be a proof-of-concept SKU tailor-made to top benchmark charts. Nvidia is expected to make very few units initially, which will undoubtedly sell for a premium as a collector item. The theory makes sense, considering that most enthusiasts would rather wait for the Ada Lovelace-based RTX 4000 series to be launched in Q4, 2022.
