Nokia to ditch the notch after the Nokia 8.1
For a company that got into the smartphone business less than two years ago, HMD’s portfolio of devices is impressive. The company has kept up a nigh-monthly device release schedule, although most of the launched devices so far have been mid-range offerings. The company has also confirmed that it will be releasing a number of devices next month at an event in Dubai.
While it remains unknown what devices will be unveiled, it’s almost certain that the company will release the Nokia 8.1, a repackaged SKU of the Nokia X7 that was launched in China a while ago. Most would have expected the device to be named the Nokia 7.1 Plus, but that will apparently not be the case.
According to sources, the Nokia 8.1 will also be the last Nokia phone to feature a notch. The company joined the notch brigade earlier this year, and haters of that design feature will be glad to see it go. The source also claims that the Finnish company has an interesting solution in mind. We’re not sure what that is but, so far, the only noteworthy notch replacement is the slider, so there may be a chance we see a Nokia device with a slider in the near future.
