The Xperia XZ and XZs received their Oreo updates, and HMD is set to follow suit, with users of the Nokia 8 getting their full, stable updates today. The Nokia 8 Oreo beta program was opened weeks ago, so this been long in the making. At this moment, only owners of the TA-1004 and TA-1012 models have received the update but others are sure to follow soon.
The update is a hefty 1.5 GB download and brings the usual Oreo features like Picture-in-Picture, and Notification dots. A customer rep, a few days ago, announced that the final Oreo build would come with Treble support but users who have gotten the update confirm that it, in fact, doesn't. HMD seems to be keen on meeting consumer needs, and considering how high-flying the craze for Treble is right now, we wouldn't be surprised to see it implemented in a future update. The company has also been said to be set to bring the Lumia camera app to the current Nokia phones but that also seems to be missing in this update.
While the Nokia 8 is the only model to have received anything related to Oreo, HMD CPO Juho Sarvikas has confirmed that the beta program for the Nokia 5 and 6 will open soon, which means that users of those devices will be getting Oreo soon.
The Nokia 8 is currently available in the US for under US$500, which is a great deal for a flagship that doesn't have any particular weaknesses. It also doesn't support all US LTE bands, though, so you'd do well to check before jumping on the deal.
