The doors to the Nokia 5's beta program have finally been thrown open, with users of the devices able to sign up and receive the beta update.

Nokia has been at the head—or close, in any case—of the pack when it comes to software support. The company, following its rebranding as HMD, has delivered timely, stable updates to users of its devices. The Nokia 5 is the next device to enjoy the perks of Android Oreo, as HMD's CPO, Juho Sarvikas, just announced that the beta program for the budget device has finally been opened.

It's a bit surprising that the Nokia 5 receives the Oreo beta ahead of the 6, as the latter was released first, and in higher up in the hierarchy of Nokia devices. Juho Sarvikas has confirmed, however, that the Nokia 6 will follow, so users of the mid-ranger can rest easy.

The update should come with standard Oreo features, and will likely be a download in the 1.4 GB range. Considering the timeline for the Nokia 8's Oreo release, we expect users of the device to receive the stable, final update within five to six weeks.

As with other Nokia devices, neither this update nor future ones will bring Treble, as the company was unable to implement the vendor partition needed for the feature.
