OnePlus 5T receives Android Oreo beta
Those who own the OnePlus 5T flagship and were upset due to the fact that the older OnePlus 3 and 3T already got Oreo should grab a drink and celebrate. No, not the fact that we are all entering a new year, but the arrival of the first open beta firmware build for their handsets.
According to the official post that was published on the OnePlus Forums this Friday, the new firmware comes with the following highlights:
- Android 8.0 Oreo (and all the goodies it includes by default, such as improved granular permissions, increased battery life and new battery-related settings, picture-in-picture mode, new emojis, and so on)
- optimized launcher shortcut style
- photos upload to Shot on OnePlus
- new Quick Settings design
- December security patch
The new beta firmware does not include Face Unlock yet, but this feature should be added in a future version--hopefully in the first Oreo-based release that will be available to the public once the testing stage is complete. Since this is a major beta update, those not adventurous enough should stay away from it. After all, the public release could arrive by the end of January if everything goes smoothly. If not, we will probably talk about the Oreo update for the OnePlus 5T in February or March.
