Nintendo Switch predicted to surpass the sales of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in holiday 2020
Sales of the Nintendo Switch will surpass those of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season, according to Mat Piscatella, an Industry Analyst of the US gaming market at NPD. While this prediction may stir some loyal fans of Sony and Microsoft, there are a few simple reasons behind why this may be the case.
According to Piscatella, there will be limited stock of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in November and December 2020, leaving the Switch open as a viable alternative. Unsurprisingly, demand for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles will remain high well into 2021. Added to this, Piscatella predicts that many households will purchase multiple Switch consoles, which will undoubtedly boost sales.
Despite strong predicted Switch sales, Piscatella believes that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be the best-selling game of 2020. Additionally, Call of Duty is expected to remain the best-selling gaming franchise in the US for the twelfth year running.
Older titles will see a resurgence though because of PlayStation and Xbox backwards-compatibility, while spending on gaming subscriptions and accessories will surge thanks to increased demand in gamepads, headsets and expandable storage modules.
