The newly released Apple MacBook Pro 14 with the latest Apple M5 SoC is an outstanding productivity laptop from every angle. However, we contended in our review that the MacBook Pro 14 M5 only makes financial sense in its base configuration, as the RAM and storage upgrades are super expensive. So, at that point, the MacBook Pro 14 with the M4 Pro is a clearly better option with a more powerful SoC and better cooling.
Fortunately, Amazon has slashed the price of the 16 GB and 1 TB version of the MacBook Pro 14 M5 by 8% or $142 to just $1,657. While this is not a big discount by any means, it does take the edge off the costly storage upgrade, as going from 512 GB to 1 TB on the MacBook Pro 14 M5 normally costs a whopping $200.
Talking a bit about the quality of the Apple MacBook Pro 14 M5, we gave the laptop a “very good” rating of 91% in our detailed review. From the chassis to the performance of the M5 and the Liquid Retina XDR display, we didn’t find much to complain about. Our only real issues with the machine were the aforementioned pricey upgrades, lack of any maintenance options, loud fans, and a low-res webcam.
In other words, the MacBook Pro 14 M5 nails what matters most in a Pro laptop. The performance of the Apple M5 is outstanding, as it is on par with the 12-core M4 Pro. The chip is practically without any competition from Intel, AMD, or Qualcomm, courtesy of its exceptional single-core performance and good efficiency.
On the display side, Apple has once again used the 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR Mini LED panel. The display boasts more than 600 nits of average brightness, complete DCI-P3 coverage, an infinite contrast ratio, and a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. So, it is a joy to use for both creative work and multimedia workloads.
Finally, the Apple MacBook Pro 14 M5 continues with the MacBook’s tradition of offering strong battery life. Our WLAN test returned close to 17 hours of battery life.
All in all, the MacBook Pro 14 2025 with the Apple M5 is a stellar prosumer notebook. It is, like almost all modern MacBooks, super easy to recommend if you have the money for it.
