New Xperia 5 IV leak reveals a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and other details of Sony's next small premium phone
A few weeks ago, word on the grapevine provided an early idea of what to expect from Sony's main flagship for the year, the Xperia 1 IV. A new leak has now revealed even more information on what will be the Xperia 1 IV smaller sibling, the Xperia 5 IV, with a few tidbits potentially set to excite fans.
As revealed by a Chinese source, the Xperia 5 IV will sport a 6.1-inch display, with what appears to be Gorilla Glass Victus for protection. Supposedly, the flagship phone will see a slight increase in battery capacity over its predecessor. The Xperia 5 III featured a 4500 mAh unit.
The most interesting part of the leak pertains to the SoC of the Xperia 5 IV. Allegedly, the premium phone will launch with a TSMC-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Ergo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus. It appears camera hardware will remain unchanged from the Xperia 5 III, though, as the leaker specifies the 12 MP IMX557 as the main shooter, the 12 MP IMX363 as the ultra-wide camera, and the 12 MP IMX663 beneath a 3x optical zoom lens.
The Xperia 5 III was unveiled in April but went on sale in October. If the information on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is accurate, fans may have to wait a while for the Xperia 5 IV to be officially announced. Reports claim that Qualcomm is accelerating production of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, though, so that wait may not be as protracted as most would assume.
