New Hercules Futura SL 12 LTD drops weight to 17 kg, packs Bosch SX motor and Shimano XT

Hercules has unveiled the Futura SL 12 LTD, aiming to make a statement for the 2027 model year—particularly when it comes to weight. Compared to the 2024 Futura SL I-12, the new model sheds another 300 grams, bringing total weight down to 17.4 kg or 38,36 lbs (or 17 kg without pedals). Despite this, it remains a fully equipped trekking e-bike, featuring a pre-installed lighting system with a fender-integrated taillight, as well as a rear luggage rack.

Unsurprisingly, it avoids heavier, higher-torque motors. Instead, Hercules relies on the weight-optimized Bosch Performance Line SX mid-drive motor, which delivers up to 60 Nm of torque and draws power from a 400 Wh Bosch CompactTube battery. An optional range extender can be added for longer rides. Controls and data are handled by the compact Bosch Purion 200 display.

Braking duties are covered by hydraulic Shimano BR-UR300 disc brakes paired with 180 mm rotors front and rear. The bike rolls on Schwalbe G-One RS Pro Evo gravel tires, designed for low rolling resistance while maintaining traction on loose surfaces. To keep weight in check, Hercules pairs an aluminum frame with a carbon fork, while gear shifting is handled by a 12-speed Shimano XT RD-M8100 drivetrain.

The 2027 e-bike is priced at €3,999. Hercules also operates in international markets, including the UK.
