New HarmonyOS 2.1 update brings new features to Huawei Watch GT 3 and Watch GT Runner with Smart Door compatibility
The Huawei Watch GT 3 and GT Runner have received a new update in China. According to Huawei Central, the new update arrives as HarmonyOS 220.127.116.119 and is approximately a 125 MB download. Typically, Huawei waits a while before it releases equivalent updates in other markets, such as the Eurozone and the UK. Still, it is unclear in what form the update will arrive outside China when it eventually does.
As for HarmonyOS 18.104.22.1689, the update allows the Watch GT 3 and GT Runner to control the AITO M5, a crossover SUV built by Seres and sold in China. As such, we doubt that Huawei will enable this feature on the global versions of the Watch GT 3 and GT Runner. As for the Chinese variants, HarmonyOS 22.214.171.1249 includes the option of unlocking the AITO M5, as well as controlling some features like air conditioning.
Furthermore, the new update adds the option of using either smartwatch as NFC-enabled keys for some BYD-compatible vehicles. Separately, HarmonyOS 126.96.36.1999 integrates Huawei Smart Door Lock and Huawei Smart Door Lock Pro compatibility, as well as improved emoji handling. Also, the update makes it possible to react to incoming messages with emojis, as is already possible on competing smartwatches. As always, HarmonyOS 188.8.131.529 brings several optimisations to both smartwatches, such as the option of setting multiple time periods for do not disturb mode. Moreover, Huawei has optimised the swimming mode interface and stroke recognition accuracy, among other minor changes.
