Garmin could be launching a brand new smartwatch in the next few days, as the Forerunner 170 is already listed in an online store, while there are several references to the watch's imminent launch on the web.

The Garmin Forerunner 165 ($259 on Amazon) was launched in February 2024, and now the running smartwatch, which is relatively inexpensive by Garmin standards, could soon have a successor. This is because the Russian online store Garmin Hub already lists a Forerunner 170, either in black and yellow, or in white and light blue - the second color probably refers to the included wristband, as with the Forerunner 165.

The retailer does not provide a product description or information on the price, delivery date or features of the smartwatch, but Garmin Hub does point out that it is a new smartwatch that can currently only be pre-ordered. the5krunner was also able to discover retailer listings on AliExpress and Strava activity from DC Rainmaker, indicating that the well-known blogger is currently doing workouts near Garmin's headquarters in Kansas - possibly a sign that a new product is being tested ahead of its launch.

As usual, such leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, but the accumulated evidence shows that there is a good chance that the Garmin Forerunner 170 will be launched soon. It is not yet known what new features the smartwatch will have. The Forerunner 165 was equipped with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and was marketed with a battery life of eleven days. Although the watch offered an integrated GPS module and numerous running apps, Garmin did not include features such as speakers, microphones, an ECG or the option for a modem for cost reasons.
