New Amazon Echo Frames (3rd Gen) and Carrera Smart Glasses with Alexa unveiled
The Amazon Echo Frames (3rd Gen) and Carrera Smart Glasses with Alexa have been revealed. The latest generation Frames have various improvements on the older models, including a 15% slimmer temple and adjustable temple tips to make them more comfortable. Amazon has boosted the battery life, allowing up to 14 hours of moderate or six hours of continuous use; the older model offered just two hours of music playback or talk time.
The Echo Frames (3rd Gen) also have redesigned speakers for a bassier sound and reduced outside noise. Plus, Alexa will work better thanks to enhanced speech processing, and you can connect the glasses to two devices simultaneously via Bluetooth. For privacy, the microphones can be muted with a button double press, and you can review any voice recordings. The Carrera glasses have identical functionality to the Echo Frames, with frames designed by Carrera Eyewear.
You can choose from two styles from Carrera, Black Sprinter and Black & Gold Cruiser, while the Echo Frame lineup offers five models: Black Rectangle, Black Square, Blue Round, Brown Cat eye and Gray Rectangle. All versions can be configured as blue light filtering glasses or sunglasses; the Echo Frame can also be prescription-ready. The Amazon Echo Frames (3rd Gen) start at $269.99, and the Carrera Smart Glasses at $389.99. The launch date has yet to be announced, with customers invited to sign up for notifications when pre-orders open.
