Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2 launches with powerful performance upgrades and a refined trackpad experience
Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Studio 2, one of three new products that the company has introduced today. Like the Surface Laptop Go 3, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 retains its predecessor's overall design. For example, Microsoft has carried over the 14.4-inch and 3:2 display from the original Surface Laptop Studio. Additionally, the hinge mechanism remains unchanged, allowing the Surface Laptop Studio 2 to turn from a conventional laptop into a quasi-tablet.
Moreover, Microsoft has added a USB Type-A port and a MicroSD card reader, as well as its predecessor's twin Thunderbolt 4 and Surface Connect ports. The company has equipped the Surface Laptop Studio 2 with a Precision Haptic Touchpad too, which can recognise more hand gestures, as shown 1 minute into the video below. Unfortunately, the new Surface Laptop Studio still has a 58 Wh battery, which failed to impress us when we reviewed its predecessor.
Furthermore, Microsoft has equipped the Surface Laptop Studio 2 with the Intel Core i7-13700H or Core i7-13800H if you choose a 'for Business' model. Conversely, Microsoft sells its new Surface Laptop Studio with a choice between Intel Xe, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 2000 Ada Generation GPU options. Microsoft complements the machine's CPU and GPU options with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x RAM too, as well as 2 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Microsoft has priced the Surface Laptop Studio 2 as follows:
- 16 GB RAM/512 GB SSD/Iris Xe iGPU - US$1,999.99
- 16 GB RAM/512 GB SSD/NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 dGPU - US$2,399.99
- 32 GB RAM/1 TB SSD/NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 dGPU - US$2,799.99
- 64 GB RAM/1 TB SSD/NVIDIARTX 2000 Ada Generation dGPU - US$3,599.99
- 64 GB RAM/2 TB SSD/NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 dGPU - US$3,699.99
