Netflix has started to enable a feature by which the video it streams can be set to go at 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.25x or 1.5x of the normal playback speed. This may be welcome among many users who might want to skip through some scenes or revisit some others if their attention was taken away while consuming content.
The function has reportedly been added to the prominent streaming platform as it "has been much requested by members for years", according to this company's vice president of product innovation Keela Robison. This group may include those with hearing or visual difficulties, who may benefit from having a given audio track modified in terms of speed.
Accordingly, the US National Association of the Deaf and National Federation of the Blind have commended Netflix on this new move. However, the update is only available on the service's Android app. It is also reportedly in the testing phase for the iOS and browser-based versions, but not for that intended for smart TVs.
