Mi Band 6 launch date confirmed and rumor roundup as Xiaomi teases display upgrade once expected for the Mi Band 5
It was already widely rumored that Xiaomi would include the Mi Band 6/Mi Smart Band 6 in the list of products that make up the exciting itinerary of the March 29 Mega Launch event. The Chinese OEM has now confirmed that the fitness tracker will be part of the Mega Launch, with both the global Twitter account and a China Weibo account for Xiaomi spilling some of the beans about the Mi Band 6. While the English-language Twitter post threw out the tagline “now 6 is coming” but with no glimpse of the device (although the white cut-out shape sort of implies a full-screen display), the Chinese-language Weibo posts were a little more generous.
Underneath a slogan and date reveal, there is a good look at a portion of the top of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, which is fitted with a bright orange wrist-strap. In fact, it seems likely the new smart bracelet will be offered in a wide range of colors as teased by Xiaomi product manager Abi Go, although her video utilizes the Mi Band 5. Beyond that, the display is teased, and it’s going to please all those Mi Band fans who craved more screen real estate. This was previously rumored for the Mi Band 5, with a series of faked images showing the predecessor with a full-screen AMOLED. It seems Xiaomi has implemented such a display with the real Mi Band 6 (but hopefully without the screen-ruining button of the fake Mi Band 5).
As for a roundup of the rest of the Mi Band 6 rumors, an SpO2 blood-oxygen level measurement sensor and Amazon Alexa assistant are expected to be onboard while there are hopes for built-in GPS and NFC payments for the international model. There have been murmurings that the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 might offer full integration with messenger services, and buyers can also expect the usual battery of useful fitness-related features. As for price, Xiaomi will have to consider the competitive nature of the smart band market, so a price tag of around US$40-50 could be expected.
