With over 3.4 million pre-orders for the iPhone SE in China alone, market research firm Slice Intelligence has shown an interest in the kind of users that are buying the smaller and less expensive iPhone.
A recently published paper from Slice reveals some interesting tidbits about soon-to-be iPhone SE owners. Accordingly, only about 35 percent of buyers had previously owned an iPhone within the past two years and about 16 percent had previously owned an Android device. Furthermore, 49 percent of buyers are upgrading from an older iPhone and only 10 percent are replacing an Android. The demographic breakdown goes deeper as summarized in the charts below.
When compared to the iPhone 6S, the iPhone SE is reaching a considerably wider range of customers. More than one-fifth of buyers are between the ages of 45 to 54 years old while 77 percent of all iPhone SE pre-orders are male. Meanwhile, 69 percent of all iPhone owners in general are male. 39 percent of iPhone SE owners have a college degree compared to 46 percent of iPhone 6 and 6S pre-orders.
The long-rumored iPhone SE was revealed earlier this month during an Apple press event. The 4-inch smartphone is a reworked iPhone 5 with updated internals and NFC for a lower starting price.
