Apple has long bee marketing the iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. Arguably, the potential for Apple's most expensive tablets to supplant a laptop are truer than ever thanks to the Apple M4 chipset, which the company offers in its current 11-inch and 13-inch variants (curr. $1,099 on Amazon).
With that being said, the limitations of iPadOS still hold the iPad Pro back, as we discussed when we reviewed the iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 13 last year. Despite Apple's instance otherwise, the iPad Pro cannot currently provide a desktop OS experience like the Surface Pro can, even when running the ARM version of Windows 11.
According to new information shared by Mark Gurman on Bloomberg, Apple hopes to close the gap with the release of iPadOS 19. Apparently due in September or October, the OS update is set to be 'more like macOS' in three overarching areas.
For example, he reports that iPadOS 19 will sport improved app window management following the introduction of Stage Manager three years ago. On top of that, the new update is said to refine multitasking and productivity. Unfortunately, Gurman has not yet provided any details of specific changes.
